Overview of the Grants

All the programs and materials found on this website have been developed for two citywide Teaching American History grants awarded to the NYC Department of Education by the federal Department of Education.

The goals of these grants, Leadership in American History and American Dream, are to

  • Increase teacher interest and knowledge in American history;
  • Increase teacher satisfaction and retention;
  • Increase student interest and achievement in American history;
  • Develop Teacher Leaders who will use content and strategies to create rich curricular units and disseminate their newly acquired knowledge to colleagues in and beyond their schools;

A Layered Approach
Recognizing that teachers have a multitude of responsibilities in and beyond their schools, we offer a variety of professional development opportunities with varying levels of commitment.
