Sponsored by two citywide Teaching American History grants:
Leadership in American History and American Dream
2009 - 2010

The New York City Department of Education is sponsoring this American History Film Club. This collaboration between the Department of Education and The Paley Center for Media, provides teachers with strategies to effectively use mainstream movies in conjunction with American history curriculum.

Participating teachers will meet over four evening sessions from October to December to examine themes, content, and historical accuracies/inaccuracies in some of Hollywood's cinematic interpretations of American history.  Participants will receive DVDs prior to each session and attend all four American History Film Club meetings.  The club's facilitators will lead historical and pedagogical sessions on strategies for utilizing each film in the classroom and will share primary media documents from the Paley Center collection.
