Leadership in American History

Presents:

American History Book Club

books
2008-2009
New York City History

Middle school teachers will share dinner and conversation in a friendly, but professional atmosphere at the New-York Historical Society. Participants will deepen their knowledge of American history and learn strategies for bringing quality history-rich literature into the classroom. This year, teachers will be exploring American history through the lens of New York City history, reading books in a variety of genres that cover a variety of time periods. Participants will work with staff from the New-York Historical Society to analyze and contextualize the books and share ideas for using them with middle school students. Participants will receive a book and reader’s guide prior to a school vacation and then meet at the New-York Historical Society from 4:30-6:30 on meeting dates for a discussion of the content of the book, additional resources, and teaching strategies. Participants must agree to attend all four sessions.
